News and details first broke of the collaboration with Richie Hawtin and Allen and Heath during NAMM week earlier this year. Since then teaser videos have been released and it has become clear the project is some sort of mixer.
The partnership behind this project, Play Differently, is Andy Rigby-Jones, who previously worked in the Xone division at Allen & Heath, and Richie Hawtin, who has been expanding his own brand, ENTER.
Since 2014, when Andy left Allen & Heath and the partnership formed, they began developing and testing their first prototype of musical hardware, working with Allen & Heath and its parent company Audiotonix. The instrument has apparently been tested over the past year at various events and locations, such as Glastonbury and Ibiza.
The project has come about in the hopes of expanding the creativity in today's generation of electronic music artists, producers and DJs, in addition to being useful to all types of DJ.
A website for the “PLAYdifferently” brand has been created, but the site is very sparse and gives little away at the moment.
The instrument is set to be released in stores this year so watch this space!
