Pioneer DJ have announced today their first major piece of live performance hardware and the start of their production equipment, the TORAIZ SP-16 sampler and step sequencer, expected to release officially this summer.
The Toraiz SP-16 is a versatile stand-alone sound machine. This new unit features an intuitive 7-inch touch screen, 16 powerful sampler engines, analogue filters and quantization syncing with CDJs via PRO DJ Link.
Toraiz SP-16 features a sequencer which enables DJs to quickly drop sounds into the 16-step sequencer to create up to 256 patterns, playback loops or trigger one-shots with the multicoloured performance pad. Users can quickly drop their sounds into 16-step loops and modulate the sounds via the six dials below the touch screen. The multicoloured buttons correspond to the colours users assign to each sound and patterns can be saved and ready for instant play back.
The 7-inch full-colour touch screen with detailed sample information allows users have complete control when browsing and loading samples before allocating colours to them. The display also shows real-time waveforms and full details of the sample's characteristics.
Performance pads featured on the new unit are taken from previous Pioneer DJ controllers with Velocity Mode. Load up to 16 samples to the pads, then finger drum freely to layer sounds, while the Velocity Mode provides volume control depending on how hard users hit the pad. The lights will then reflect the colours assigned to them.
Toraiz SP-16 comes with 8GB of onboard flash memory and real-time processing for non-stop music production, enabling users to save and store a decent amount of content. Being a stand-alone unit with this much memory space the need for a laptop is no more! The SP-16 delivers 16-voice polyphony, meaning every sample can played at the same time, even whilst using time stretch or editing the sound using the screen amp envelope.
Pioneer DJ have collaborated with Dave Smith and his iconic Prophet-6 synthesizer to add analogue filters which have control over the Drive, Cut Off and Resonance.
In addition, Pro DJ Link and Midi clock means users will never miss a beat with this new Pioneer DJ unit. Add the Toraiz SP-16 to CDJ or XDJ set ups and the versatile sampler will snap users one-shots and loop the beat of the master deck. This means multiple sounds can be layered over tracks and will always be in sync. The Midi clock means additional devices can be connected via USB and stay in sync too!
