David Bowie has won five posthumous Grammy Awards at the 59th annual ceremony for his final album 'Blackstar'.

Picking up the most Grammy Award wins of any other artist this year, the iconic artist's last album, released on his 69th birthday last year in  January, just days before his shock death as a result of liver cancer, was judged Best Alternative Music Album, Best Engineered Album (Non-Classical) and Best Recording Package.

Its title track earned the late pop music pioneer Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song. Over the years Bowie has previously been nominated for 12 Grammy Awards including Album of the Year for ‘Let’s Dance’ and Best Male Rock Vocal Performance six times over. However before the release of ‘Blackstar’, Bowie had only earned one Grammy in 1985 for best short-form video for Jazzin' for Blue Jean.
